American film composer whose breakthrough came with the score for The Wrath of Khan, followed by The Search for Spock.
James Horner (1953–2015) was an American composer and conductor known for blending orchestral, choral and electronic writing. He was relatively early in his career when he was hired to score Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), and the assignment proved to be his big break.
Horner returned for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), developing themes from the previous film. He went on to score more than a hundred films and television productions, including Aliens, Glory, Braveheart and Titanic, which won him two Academy Awards. He died in 2015.
