The final battle of the Dominion War, fought over Cardassia Prime.
By the final months of the Dominion War, Cardassia had turned against its Dominion overlords. Damar, once a loyal subordinate of Gul Dukat, led a resistance movement that struck Dominion installations, and the Federation, Klingon and Romulan allies decided to drive straight at the Cardassian homeworld to end the conflict.
The allied fleets pushed through the defenses around Cardassia Prime while the Dominion and its Breen partners fought to hold the system. On the ground the rebels seized the Dominion headquarters, and Damar died in the fighting. In retaliation the Female Changeling ordered the systematic destruction of Cardassian cities, inflicting terrible damage on the population the Dominion had once called allies.
The slaughter ended only when Odo, linking with the Founders, delivered the cure for the disease that was killing them, and the Female Changeling agreed to surrender. Admiral Ross, Martok, Sisko, Kira, Worf and Garak all took part in the endgame. A treaty ended the war, but Cardassia was left shattered and reliant on outside help to rebuild, while the Dominion withdrew to the Gamma Quadrant.
