Dr. Sara Kingsley ran the Darwin Genetic Research Station on Gagarin IV in Unnatural Selection. When the crew of the USS Lantree died of apparent old age after visiting the station, the Enterprise found that Kingsley and her staff were suffering the same rapid ageing.
Kingsley explained that the station had been genetically engineering children with powerful immune systems. Dr. Pulaski discovered that those immune systems were attacking the adults around them and causing the disease. Pulaski, who caught it herself, was cured by the transporter, but the station's research could not continue.
