Man from the shifting planet Meridian who fell in love with Jadzia Dax, separated from her when his world left normal space.
Deral is one of the people of Meridian, a planet that spends most of its existence in another dimension and appears in normal space only briefly. In Meridian, he and Jadzia Dax fall in love while the Defiant crew helps stabilize the planet.
Deral offers to leave with her, but his people cannot spare a single member, so Dax decides to stay on Meridian instead. When the planet shifts out of phase, her body cannot cross over, and the crew beams her back to the Defiant. Deral vanishes with his world, which will not return for sixty years.
